Mobile HGV Technician

As Technician, you will complete vehicle servicing, carry out running repairs such as inoperative lighting, and routine maintenance including replacing brake pads. There may also be some ad-hoc vehicle faults reported, with all works carried out at various customer sites in Didcot and the surrounding area.

The Candidate:

  • Time served, experienced Technician / Mechanic.

  • Have a working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic software packages.

  • Have a valid HGV Class 2 driving licence.

  • Hold a Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician qualification / IRTEC licence or possess the relevant experience.

  • 5 x GCSE’s or equivalent, including Maths and English. (desirable).

  • Have an excellent knowledge of vehicle maintenance requirements, and keen awareness of both personal and vehicle health and safety standards.

  • Be reliable, have the ability to work independently without supervision, and as part of a team.

  • Have strong communication skills and the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.

  • Have a high attention to detail excellent problem solving and practical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be accountable for any and all works completed when signing-off vehicles.

  • To complete 6-weekly vehicle safety inspections, running repairs, maintenance and ad-hoc works to manufacturer guidelines and current legislation.

  • Diagnose faults with vehicles and to report any and all defects.

  • To assist other team members with work.

  • To provide advice and cost-effective guidance to customers so that works can be agreed whilst with the customer, before parts can be ordered.

  • To complete job cards and 6-weekly inspection reports in the specified way.

  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment when appropriate to complete assigned tasks.

  • To undertake and complete any reasonable requests made by your line manager.

The Role:

  • Permanent (subject to a 3 month probation period).

  • Working hours: 40hrs per week in eight-hour shifts between the hours of 6am to 8pm.

  • Breaks: 30mins paid lunch, plus 2 x 15min breaks each day.

  • Working Pattern: 5 in 7 on a weekly rota of Sun to Thu or Mon to Fri.

  • Mobile phone / Tablet: A mobile phone and tablet will be provided.

  • Tools: You will need to provide your own tools, however, specialist tools will be provided.

  • Clothing: A full uniform, coveralls, footwear and appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided.

  • Annual holiday entitlement: 25 days, plus 8 public holidays paid holiday (pro rata).

  • Private pension scheme: 5% employer contribution, 3% employee contribution.

  • Salary: £45,500 per annum, with overtime rates available.
